Although Troy Helton's recent death was an unfortunate and unexpected tragedy, we are all approaching a time in life when death becomes a more common occurrence. 

 

Last year Dennis Wallace and Alex Bari passed away and there was no Nordhoff Class of 64 response or representation. Vickie Morrow passed away in 2011 and now Troy Helton. Larry Kennedy attended Vickie's funeral in 2011. This year Glenda McConnell and Fred Brue attended Troy's funeral as informal representatives of the class.

 

Right now all we have a general Nordhoff bank account that is specifically for funding reunions. We used a small portion of these class reunion funds to buy flowers for Troy’s funeral. Although we do have funds remaining in our reunion account they won’t last forever. Troy’s death motivated us to consider establishing a special fund for the future and a mechanism to invite volunteers to represent the class at funerals. This way classmates can contribute specifically to purchasing flowers as well as representing the class at the funeral.

 

We realize that classmates live all over the US and overseas so if we can’t actually send a representative we should be able to at a minimum send flowers with a note that includes condolences from the entire class as well as moral support for the family.
