Joanne Wickline

Joanne Wickline

According to the death notice above Joanne passed away in Ventura on February 12, 2020.

She was active at an early age in girl scouts in Mira Monte where she was elected to serve as the roop scribe.. As a junior in high school she served as the maid of honor at a friend's wedding. Joanne was active for many yeaars in the Ojai Business and Professional Women's Club, serving in various leadership positions such as the vice president and treasurer. She also participated in several fashion shows representing the Ojai Valley News which helped kick off the Ventura County Fair every year.

All I could find about her sister Jeannie (Wickline) Smith was that she lived in Grass Valley, Callifornia. There is no record I could find that Joanne had married. Something I found intriguing was that as a young child her parents were Mr. Floyd and Mrs. Wickline but in a 2006 Obituary of Lucille Oakley of Ojai, Joanne of Ventura and Jeannie of Grass Valley are listed as her surviving children.

I encourage any of you who were friends of Joanne,  who have an interesting story to tell about her or who know how she came to have two different sets of parents, to let me know and i will add it here. Blair

Joanne had a stepdad. His name was Dale Oakley. He worked for the county in the Parks Dept. He was a very good person. I worked as his secretary for a couple of years in the County Parks office

in school Joanne, Gloria Neibuhr and myself were best friends. When we were in PE and there was something we didn't want to do. Joanne would faint on command and the three of us would go to the nurses office. Later on, I understand she fell in the shower when she fainted. I suppose there really wasn underlying problem that we weren't aware of in high school. After school unfortunately, I lost contact with Joanne and eventually with Gloria as well. I am in contact with Gloria 's youngest sister.
